Want To Be Our Next Senior Salute? Find Out How!

Name: Jade Wimmer

School: Gunnison Valley

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment?
State Championships my sophomore year when I became a state champion in the 400m and breaking our school's record.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
Everyone that competes on Gold Medal Athletics. Love you guys!!

What was your greatest accomplishment?
Three state titles and a track and field scholarship from Colorado Mesa University of which I am planning to attend.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

Probably that I would have started 2-a-days way earlier.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
Obviously this Coronavirus putting a stop to competing is probably a huge one and learning to be my own source of motivation.

What will you miss the most?

Seeing the athletes I have competed with since middle school!

What advice would you give to younger athletes?
Stick with it and embrace the suck. Enjoy it while it lasts, and create memorable experiences including all your good and bad races. Learn and move on.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?
My coach is my dad, since I was 10 years old. From his experiences in being a world champion in Power Lifting, he has put so much time and sacrifice into training me and has given me advice that he wish he took when he competed. He motivates me and pushes me towards my goals.  I could never have done this without him.

What are your college plans?
I have accepted an offer for track and field from Colorado Mesa University and plan to attend this fall.

Who would you like to say thank you to?
Literally everyone who came out to support me. My mom who always gives the best advice and. makes so many sacrifices for me to succeed.  My Dad, who is my rock in all of this.  But most of all, I thank Jesus for this amazing sport and opportunity to shine his glory.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Thank you Utah MileSplit for all the meets you guys attend and report on.  Us athletes appreciate you gusy and all you do!
