Jaster Drops 16:06 Freshman Debut, 2nd Fastest Since 2000

We wanted to see how Weddington freshman's Nate Jaster's 5K debut compared to some of North Carolina's recent stars.  We looked back since 2000 to see how his 16:06.7 stacked up against some of the states All-Time best freshman.  Only 9 freshman since 2000 have run a faster time than Jaster did today.  Only Jeremy Brown ran a faster debut than Jaster clocking 16:02 at the 2012 Providence Invitational.  However the course was the old course which is approximately 70 meters shorter.  Classifying an athletes debut was their first real race of the season.  We didn't consider a dual meet a true debut.  Two athletes in Jacob Gonzalez and Taylor Gilland likely are missing their true debut from out database, but those were the first races we could find.

At least two more freshman (that we know of) in Adrian Archer (Pinecrest) and Giovanni Rincon (Union Pines) have the potential to match Jaster's debut once they race.
