20 State Records go down at the BYU Invitational!

6A Records

Girls

Lets just start with all the 6A records and work our way up.  On the girls side of things we saw 6 new 6A Records go down. We'll start with Emily Ellis who broke 200m record in 25.23.  This isn't Emily's best mark but it is her fastest of the season which makes it a State Record.  Moving onto Ellis's teammate Ali Bybee, who broke the 800m record in 2:13.53.  She finished 2nd in the meet and she's only a Junior so who knows how much faster she'll be by next year.  Speaking of Juniors,  Abby Jensen, managed to take home two new 6A records!  First one coming from the 3200m on Friday where she ran a 10:45.01 finishing second to Sadie Sargent.  The other one was done in the 1600m the next day where she ran a 4:59.03 adding her name to the short list of girls who have broken 5 in the State of Utah.  The last individual record that happened was done by American Fork's Emma Aldred, who ran a 14.75 in the 100m Hurdles.  Aldred was the runner up to Lindsey Middleton of Timpview in this event.  Our one relay record that was broken was done by the Lone Peak Girls 4x400m team.  This one was crazy to me because they ran without their star runner Emily Ellis and anchoring was an extremely exhausted Alison Richter who had just run in the 200m Finals.  I bet with Richter and Ellis at 100% they could have shaved a few more seconds off their time.

Boys

Now to the boys who managed to pack up 7 new records at BYU.  First we look at the dominating performance of Zachary Winter who owned the 1600m field and ran a 4:08.96.  This is the first sub 4:10 performance we have seen all season and it hopefully won't be the last.  Winter ran smart and with confidence as he was able to out kick the NXN Champion Aidan Troutner in the final lap of the race.

Another distance record broken was by Luke Grundvig of American Fork who finished 5th with a time of 9:17.25.  Luke ran in a super competitive field and was able to drop his PR by about 10 seconds!  Like Abby Jensen, Andrew Simonsen of Davis was able to take home two records as well.  His records were 14.63 in the 110m Hurdles and 37.94 in the 300m Hurdles.  We did not see Andrew in the finals even though he had qualified from the prelims. Some field event records that went down were by another Davis star Xakai Harry who jumped 23-1.5 in the Long Jump. Cody Conrad of West Jordan threw 177-9.75 in the Javelin to take the top spot in 6A.  The one relay record that was broken was the 4x100m by Riverton who ran 41.80!
