2017 Cross Country MileSplit Utah Boys All-State Team Honors

2ND TEAM
- - -

1.  Caleb Garnica,  Springville. Senior

Springville had an insane amount of depth in it's top 4 runners and that is why Springville went on to claim 5th as a team at Nationals.  Caleb being the number 3 guy managed to keep himself before most of the other school's number one runners which is something that this Springville team has been deeply grateful for.  Caleb's PR's which he set this season were as follows:  15:03 for 3miles,  and 15:21 for a 5K.

2.  Justin Hartshorn,  Lone Peak,  Senior

Justin managed to cap off a great season which saw him finish 32nd at Footlocker Nationals.  He was the runner up at the 6A Class State Race and then went on to finish 35th at NXR-SW, and 10th at FL West.  Justin also won two races this year which were his Pre Regionals and the Utah County Invite.

3.  Logan Anderson,  Westlake,  Senior

Logan came so close to qualifying at both NXR-SW and FL West.  Anderson placed 11th at Nike in a time of 15:12 for a 5K which is a new PR for him,  and 25th and Footlocker in a time of 16:15.60.  Logan was 5th overall at the 6A Class State Race and he finished 9th in the State Meet Merge.  Logan's only win this season came at the Salt Lake XC Classic where he ran a 15:09.20 for 3 miles, also a PR.

4.  Jima Rout,  Olympus,  Senior

Jima like all of these guys had a great season and I will admit that I was a bit surprised to not see him race at FL West.  However Jima did take 5th in the 5A Class State Race and went on to finish 19th at NXR-SW in a time of 15:19 for a 5K which is a new PR.  Rout was the winner of the Region 6 Championships and had several runner ups including 2nd at Murray to Brandon Garnica and 2nd at Park City to Ryan Raff.

5.  Caleb Armstrong,  Hurricane,  Junior

Caleb Armstrong is just the 2nd guy listed so far who will be returning next season.  Armstrong had a dominant season down south where he picked up 5 wins which were SUU Invite, Larry Burgess Invitational,  Hurricane Invite,  Cedar,  and Region 9 Championships.  Armstrong was a guy that had plenty of sub 15 performances in the 3mile.  So why is he not ranked higher with such a great looking resume?  Well he only finished 11th in the state meet merge and was 24th at NXR-SW.  Still shouldn't be a season we should overlook and this is a guy I'd expect to make a lot of noise on the national scene next year.

6.  Devin Pancake,  Springville,  Senior

Devin Pancake rounds out the top 4 from Springville as he is 6th on the All-State 2nd Team.  Devin was the second best 4th man in the entire country, just behind the  National Champs, Loudan Valley's 4th.  Devin had set new PRs for the 3 mile at 15:03 and the 5K at 15:33.

7.  Ben Berlin,  Timpanogos,  Senior

Ben Berlin was one of other lucky guys who attended a national meet this year.  This was Berlin's second time running at NXN, his first was his sophomore year in 2015.  Not only did his team have a great season but he also had quite the individual season as well.  Ben was 8th in the 5A State Race and finished 15th in the merge.  He then went on and placed 26th at NXR-SW to help his team qualify for NXN where he ended his XC season at 72nd.
