Among those Taylorsville junior Dominique Thompson who finished 2nd at last years UHSTCA Indoor State Championships and UHSAA Outdoor State Championships. Thompson has been dangerously close to the 12 second barrier for 100 meters and is expected to battle with division rival Bailee Whitworth of Viewmont for the 60 meter dash crown. Senior Jerica Wilson of Fremont the season favorite over the quarter is the top returner from a year ago. Others to watch: Kealia Ohai, Alta; Amanda Alston, Bonneville; Sydni Samuels, Altamont; Jessica Maviano, Bountiful

Skyline senior Jeff Daw is the top returner from last years state championship over 200m but should expect stiff competition from Avery, Yardley, and a much improved Timpview senior Tyler Goodwin. Others to watch: Tyler Conrad, Bingham; Brayden Brunson, Delta

Girls Distances - Looking to be a premier event for Utah with All-American freshman Danielle Menlove leading the way. Coming into the season having placed 3rd at last years indoor national championships mile (4:55) as an eight grader, Menlove is expected to be the runner to beat. Hot on her heals will be Skyline senior Shalaya Kipp and defending Indoor State Champion Candace Eddy of Davis HS. Over 800 meters, Eddy is the top returner from last years championship but should face competition from Skyline freshman Rachel Webb and Kearns senior Sarena Ostberg. Ostberg and Webb have each dipped under the 2:15 barrier outdoors. Others to watch: Kelsy Brown, Mountain View (800m); Chloe Calton, Ogden (800m/1600m); Sarah Callister, Ogden (1600m); Brooke Hodson, Timpanogos (1600m)
