Collin Morrison Training Blog: 1st Race Back From Injury & Making State

10/3: Monday - Speed workout today!! I did a mile warm-up, then 10x400m, the first 5 at 5k pace, next 3 at 2 mile pace, then the last 2 at mile pace. Splits were 74,79,77,75,76,72,72,71,64,65. I was able to stay on pace so that was grand. .5 cooldown. Also huge shoutout to USU for being straight up fantastic so far!

10/4: Tuesday - Rough time waking up today... I was supposed to be in the hotel lobby at 6:15 so I could be at USU practice at 6:30 but I forgot to set my alarm and I woke up to coach calling me... Big fail on my part. But that's alright because I still made it to practice. In the rush I didnt have time to massage my calf/foot or do my exercises so it hurt pretty bad. Easy 3.5. I went straight to practice right when I got home to see my dear team that I missed so much

10/5: Wednesday - 4 Easy miles. My legs are tired. Nothing else really to report. I'm happy to be back with the guys.

10/6: Thursday - Premeet for region today. The 800 felt so smooth and I'm way excited... I hit 2:30 on the dot so that was good. Just trying not to get nervous... Trying...

10/7: Friday - First race back today! Wow it's been a while... My plan was to just stay calm the first mile and build from there. First mile was 5:05, and it felt pretty calm and controlled. Second mile was 5:26, so I slowed down a little bit, but I was either holding my position or passing people that whole time. Also just trying to stay with Parker. Third mile was 5:31, and I had to fight for that one. With .75 to go Jamie pointed at an Orem kid a little bit ahead of me and said I had to catch him and that made me scared because she sounded pretty darn desperate... I didn't end up catching him but I did all I could. I didn't die super hard but it left a fair amount to be desired. I finished in 16:12. All in all not a bad first race back at all... I'm excited for state and Nike. Also, the team got third so we're headed to state!!! Huge shoutout to Guppy for getting 2nd overall and the girls team for also getting third and making it to state!

Good things: Region 7 Results
1-Controlled first mile. Fast but not too fast.
2-2 seconds away my region time from last year. Not bad for not running for 2 months.
3-I fought every time I hurt. No giving up happened here.
Thing to work on- work hard to hold pace the last mile

10/8: Saturday - 4 easy miles with Zack after helping out with a road race in park city. It's dang beautiful up there.
