Athlete of the Week: September 23-29, 2013

Connor McMillan, American Fork High School- Mcmillan earns the Athlete of the Week honors  for his second week in a row as he beat a stacked field at the Nebo XC Invite last Friday night.. The race was held on a muddy course on a day that saw the first snowfall of the year, but the times were still extremely fast. Mcmillan beat out Kramer Morton of Alta, and Clayson Shumway of Lone Peak to get the win with a time of 14:39 to Morton’s time of 14:45.

Lucy Biles, Herriman- Biles also earned her second consecutive Athlete of the Week honors after winning at the Nebo XC Invite at Maple Mountain last Friday. This win brings her win streak to 3 in a row, as she is looking better and better as the season progresses. Her winning time of 17:08 is the second fastest time in the state over 3 miles so far this season. It was also good enough to beat the nearest competitor, Binghams Marlee Mitchell, by 21 seconds. Mitchell has been racing very well all season, and might not get enough attention for how talented she is, so we want to give her a shout out today as well to say it isn’t unnoticed.

Every week, Milesplit Utah honors one male athlete and one female athlete of the week, based on high performance. The award is given to an athlete based on time, exceptional performance, a big win, a breakout performance, or whatever else merits the honor. When you feel someone deserves the award, send us your nomination by email to milesplitut@gmail.com
