Athlete Spotlight: Carson Wilkins (Morgan)

Carson Wilkins is off to a hot start this XC season clocking PRs in the 3 Mile and 2.x Mile Short course. At premier, he was the runner up to Porter Whitworth in a time of 14:58.30 and at Highland, he crossed the line in 6th with a time of 15:14.40.  Before this he had the privilege of running at New Balance Nationals Outdoor in the 2000m Steeple Chase where he placed 19th in the country!  He will be the 7th fastest returner for next year.

How did you first get started running?

I first started getting into running because I didn't make the basketball team freshman year and I decided to give running a try.



Favorite workout?
7,7,7's (7 minutes at 60-65% race pace, 7 minutes at 80-85% race pace, 7 minutes at 95-100% race pace)


Least favorite workout?
NAU Lumberjack Workout


How do you personally prepare yourself mentally and physically for a race?
I prepare by relaxing in my inflatable couch  before my race and getting lots of rest the night before. We also pray together as a team right before our race.


Pre race superstitions?
I eat Buffalo Chicken Mac N Cheese the night before my race. I also always wear my lucky Suburbia Sprinklers bucket hat.


Most memorable race?
Running the 3200 my first time at Arcadia junior year. I ran a big PR and it was cool to see all of the crazy fast runners there.


Where are you at on your college decisions?
I haven't made any major decisions, but my top 2 colleges right now are probably Utah Valley University and Weber State University.


What are your top 3 goals you wish to accomplish this season?
1. Win state individually and as a team
2. Qualify for Foot Locker Nationals 
3. Run sub 15:20 for a 5k
