Collin Morrison Training Blog: 1st Race Week

9/22: Monday- Indoor bike for the win. 10 min warm up, then a 15 min hill climb, increasing resistance every 3 minutes. The last 3 min I was supposed to decrease the resistance a little to help work on kick and leg speed. Then I finished out to 70 minutes. The new bikes at the school are pretty nice so I'm definitely grateful for those.

8/23: Tuesday- .5 miles running at the tri meet. It still hurts. Life happened, I wasn't able to get to the pool to swim.

8/24: Wednesday- More biking. 10 min warm up, then 8 sets of 5 min medium, 2 min hard, 2 min easy, concluded with a 10 min cooldown. 92 minutes total today... Praying I don't hurt anymore.

8/25: Thursday- Biking is life. 10 min warm up, then 8 sets of 90 sec easy, 2 min medium, 1 min hard, 1 min rest. 10 min cooldown. I'm going to try running tomorrow to do premeet for grass relays and see how it feels.

8/26: Friday- Premeet for grass relays. .5 miles in 2:28, so right on pace. The warm up hurt decently, the .5 miles in my spikes surprisingly didn't hurt as bad, but then the 1 mile cooldown was pretty darn painful. Finished mileage on the bike.

8/27: Saturday- Grass Relays @westlake. For those that don't know, only 5 varsity runners run this race, and it's a 10 mile relay (yes, baton included) so each person runs 2 miles. When we got to the meet I ran half a mile to test out my achilles. It hurt pretty bad. I went to the medical tent and they taped it up real good so shoutout to them. I decided that I might as well race because I was already registered and I can't let the team down. I ran the first leg, and the first mile was good, but the second mile was not as good. I fought through it, but I should've been smarter about the bike workouts this week and actually letting my body recover. I hammered the workouts every day, so my legs were pretty trashed. My split was 10:46. I didn't cool down because my achilles hurt too bad. I'm going to see a different physical therapist on Monday to get a second opinion because I haven't really run for 3 weeks but it still hurts like heck.
