State Records fall at Davis Invite

The Davis Invitational lived up to the hype with fantastic performances coming in across the board. The most significant performances were the 4 state records that fell on the weekend. Three records came on the girls side of things. Megan Glassman of Park City set the all divisions state record in the Javelin, Kaysha Love of Herriman set the 4a record in the 200m dash, and Shea Martinez  of Davis tied the record in the 800m Run. On the Boys side, Woods Cross broke the state record with a time of 41.95

Seeded Heat Results

Megan Glassman won the Javelin with a throw of 156’3” winning by over 30 feet. Her mark broke her own state record, set last year, and also breaks the record for all division by over 5 feet. Her sister Chrissy was second in the event with a throw of 125’11”

Herriman star Kaysha Love is the real deal. she is only a freshman, and now holds the 4a state record in the 200m dash with a time of 24.58. The old record, held by Kaisa Rosenburg of Springville was 24.62 set in 2011. Kaysha beat out Sky View Senior Brenna Porter in the process, who finished at 24.86 which is also a great performance for her.  Love also won the girls 100m Dash with a time of 12.04 which is a mere .04 off the State Record in that event.

Shea Martinez improved on her season best enough to tie the state record exactly. The record, set in 2008 by Nachelle Stewart of Spanish fork, stands at 2:08.48. In the same races Odgen Duo of Sarah Feeny and Avery Calton also showed well running 2:13.71 and 2:15.21 respectively.

Woods Cross 4x100- Last weekend at the Wildcat invitational the Woods Cross Boys 4x100 set the 4a state record by a mere .01 of a second. This weekend, in a very tight battle, they decided to make sure that record was safe, by bettering it. They brought the record down a huge amount to 41.95. Davis was 2nd in a very close finish with a time of 42.09 and Syracuse was 3rd at 42.33.

Meet Highlights: There were plenty of great performances besides just the records that fell. 2013 State bests were recorded in over 20 events.

Girls 100m hurdles Brenna Porter of Skyview recorded a personal best in the 100m hurdles on her way to the win. Her time of 14.50 narrowly edged out Christine Van Brocklin of Davis by .02 seconds. They are the top two times in the state this year. The two finished in the same order in the 300m Hurdles with Porter winning in 42.55

Girls 110m Hurdles- Jaxon Worthen Edged out Connor Jensen 14.61 to 14.62 in the boys 110h.

Boys 100m Dash- Seth Fortin of Davis won the boys 100m dash in a state leading time of 10.80. The heat saw 5 athletes under 11 seconds and Fortin pulled out the win over Jacopo Spano of Woods Cross 10.80 to 10.82. Brandon Smart and Sam Roberts of Alta were 3rd and 4th.

Girls 1600m Run- in a very stacked girls 1600, Ellie Child of Davis dominated, winning by 5 seconds over Ali Walker of Park City. Ellie’s time of 4:58.58 is one of the fastest run in Utah this season. Taylor Cox of Davis was 3rd.

Boys 1600m Run- In one of the most exciting and deepest races, Ricky Faure of Wyoming led an amazing charge of Utah athletes with a time of 4:13.97. In what had to be the one of the overall fastest races ever run in Utah, the top 5 were all under 4:16. I can’t recall if Ive ever seen that many run that fast on the same day in Utah. Andrew Brewer was the top Utahn with a time of 4:14.42 followed closely by Tomy Gutierrez of East at 4:14.61, Kramer Morton of Alta at 4:14.72, and Austin Brower of West Lake at 4:15.35. great races by each of these athletes. School records for many of them and very close for the rest.

Girls 400m- Sydney Bricker of Hillcrest ran a huge PR in the 400m Dash to win by a long shot. Her time of 56.54 is the second fastest in the state this year and won by nearly 2 seconds.

Boys 400m Dash- Trevor Leavitt of Davis found himself in the middle of a Riverton Woods Cross Dual, but he didn’t let that go to his head. Instead he took advantage of the home crowd and won in state leading fashion, running a staggering 48.05. The Riverton trio of Lambourne, Bluth, and Walker went 2-3-4 respectively.

Boys 300h- Mitch Mordaunt of Weber beat out Sam Roberts of Alta, 38.48 to 38.58. They are the fastest two times in the state so far this season.

Boys 800m- In another exciting boys distance race, Nate Marchant of Jordan pulled out the win. 6 athletes ran under 1:57 and 10 ran under 1:59. That’s a deep field. Marchant pulled out the victory in 1:55.06 over Austin Brower of West Lake, who is having a spectacular season, in 1:55.54. Brower ran two PR’s in the 800 and 1600 two weeks ago and bettered them both this weekend. Seth Thompson of Davis was third at 1:56.29.

Boys 200m Dash- Brandon Smart of Alta ran a state leading time of 21.76 en route to victory, beating out Seth Fortin of Davis who finished in 21.80.

Boys 3200m Run- The boys other distance races were very close battles, the boys 3200m was not. Chuk Mitchell of Herriman ran a very good time of 9:25.48 and Mike Finch of Pine View at 4:30, but no one could keep up with Sky View Sophomore Conner Mantz. Mantz won the race in 9:13.45 which is only 2 seconds off the state record held by Seth Pilkington set in 2000. Mantz is a very strong runner and is only getting better. That could spell trouble for all distance events records.

Girls 3200m Run- Emily Rich of Bingham won the girls 3200m with a time of 10:54. She beat out Lucy Biles of Herriman who was 2nd in 10:59.23

Boys 4x400m Relay Davis HS won a very close boys 4x400 over Alta 3:24.08 to 3:24.67. Riverton, who is very strong in the 4x400 this season was disqualified.

Girls 4x800 The home team prevailed in the girls 4x800m relay. The Davis Darts, who won the event at the indoor national championship, beat out a very talented Park City team, 9:18 to 9:30.

Boys 4x800- Davis Boys broke the 8 minute mark running 7:58.55. they beat out Highland High of Pocatello, Id who finished at 8:00.94.
